FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Greensburg, Kans. -- J.R. Claeys, candidate for Kansas Secretary of State, is promoting volunteerism in Kansas while helping to build a home in Greensburg.
"Volunteerism is the cornerstone of civic engagement," said Claeys. "When Kansans face adversity, we don't complain, we come together to help our neighbors."
Greensburg was devastated by a tornado in May of 2007. Recovery efforts there continue today.
Claeys believes there is a strong connection between volunteerism, civic engagement and participation in elections.
"When we have a vested interest in our communities we participate in electing our public servants," said Claeys. "As Kansas Secretary of State I will work hard to increase voter turnout and participation in our elections."
Volunteer opportunities are still available in Greensburg and in many other communities throughout the state.
