Where It's Made Matters: Keeping Our Local Economy Strong
Thursday, November 13th, 2008
By J.R. Claeys
Talking with manufacturers today I'm reminded that we are often conditioned to believe that everything we buy comes from China. The truth is, a lot of things do, but we still have a heck of a lot of manufacturing going on right here in Kansas.
Whenever possible, my campaign makes purchases from Kansas businesses or businesses that sell products Made in the U.S.A. Our pens are products of the United States, our bumper stickers were made over in Topeka and the campaign car was made at the GM Fairfax Assembly here in Kansas.
It isn't difficult to find things made in Kansas, or at the very least the United States. And it does matter. Those manufacturers employ thousands of Kansans and we export billions of dollars in goods out of the state and country, bringing dollars into our economy.
As the holiday season approaches and we all do a little more shopping, keep in mind that American jobs are vital to our economy. When you can, buy the products Made in the U.S.A.
In keeping with practicing what we preach, the campaign will have a full source list of products for review as our first financial reports are made public at the beginning of 2009.
